In this episode, Jose Cruz interviews Tina Rose, CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of San Diego County, about her path from East County student and group home staffer to leading one of the region’s key youth mentoring organizations. She explains how early work in foster care, including helping launch the San Diego branch of Olive Crest, shaped her focus on prevention and long-term relationships with youth. Rose outlines how Big Brothers Big Sisters creates and supports one-to-one matches from childhood through early adulthood, with staff providing ongoing guidance and wraparound services. She also addresses the growing “loneliness epidemic,” especially among boys, and describes how programs like Sports Bigs and partnerships with local gyms and colleges help bring young people out of isolation, build soft skills, and connect them to education and career opportunities.
