I have always been fascinated by true crime stories. Just ask me about my time as a licensed private investigator and true crime with a faith slant podcaster. I have stories. Before you judge me, let's look at how much true crime there is in the Bible. There's the stories of Shechem and Dinah, the robbers and the traveler from the tale of the Good Samaritan, the serial killer Queen Athaliah. Yeah, look her up.
And there's more. Let's talk about an unnamed woman who defended her city with quick thinking, strong arms, and the kind of courage that shows up when everything's on the line. Abimelech was a power-hungry guy who had murdered his seventy brothers so that he could seize the throne. He came to Thebez, surrounded the city and was positioning himself to burn down a tower where all the civilians had fled for safety. But before he could strike the fatal blow, wham! A woman positioned on the roof dropped an upper millstone, crushed his skull, and all he can think to say is that he was ashamed to be bested by a woman. Loser.
Your faithful service may feel small some days, but it's a part of God's bigger strategy to protect His people and preserve space for His presence.
