For men and women in law enforcement and church security, keeping our passion for the work from flickering out can become its own battle. I've seen it happen too many times. Good people who started serving, whether it was in a security ministry or as a law enforcement officer, they had a fire in their hearts, then slowly just kept burning out until they were running on nothing but muscle memory and obligation.
They still show up, still do the job, but the spark that once made their service feel like worship - it's flickering dangerously low.
In the Old Testament, God gave the priests one simple but very profound command: keep the fire burning on the altar continuously. Not just on special occasions, not just when they felt particularly inspired. Continuously. The priests had one job regarding that flame: don't let it go out, no matter what. Friends, we have a similar calling.
