Scottie Barnes’ New Role with Kawhi | Toronto Raptors News

Scottie Barnes, fresh off his second All-Star nod, is poised for a pivotal role shift with the Raptors as Kawhi Leonard joins the roster. While Barnes thrived last season averaging 18 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists while earning All-Defensive honors, his new role will pivot from offensive initiator to smart, efficient scorer — a change that could unlock even greater impact. Playing alongside Leonard, Barnes will face fewer double teams and more open looks, allowing his elite passing and defense to shine without the burden of being the primary option. The Raptors’ front office has built a supporting cast to maximize this dynamic duo, and Barnes’ unselfish, team-first mentality makes him the perfect fit for this evolution — potentially elevating both his game and the franchise’s ceiling.
