Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office is upgrading its license plate reader tech from Flock to Axon — not just for convenience, but for control. With Axon already powering their body cams and digital evidence, this move expands a trusted system while locking down data access, limiting sharing by default and requiring strict authorization. The switch comes after Flock faced criticism for cross-state data leaks, and BCSO aims to balance public safety with privacy under tight oversight. Sheriff John Allen emphasized accountability, citing zero disciplinary cases and an ethics-driven framework that only allows searches tied to active criminal investigations. Full rollout before 2026 hinges on contracts, testing, and training — all aimed at seamless integration with existing crime center systems.

Former UFC fighter Diego Sanchez is facing serious legal trouble after being arrested in Socorro County on aggravated DUI charges. Witnesses at a gas station reported him acting erratically, following someone into the store and banging on doors. Police found him unsteady on his feet, smelled alcohol, noted bloodshot eyes and slurred speech — and he failed a sobriety test. He fled in a black BMW before being pulled over, leading to his arrest. This isn’t his first brush with the law — he was arrested in 2025 for firing a weapon from a car in Albuquerque, and this incident may violate his active five-year probation. With court proceedings looming, fans are watching closely as his public profile faces another major setback.

As President Trump headlines the Republican midterm convention in Dallas, New Mexico GOP candidates are split on attending—Greg Cunningham speaks for national exposure while Gregg Hull and Martin Zamora stay local to focus on voters. Cunningham’s speech will spotlight Democratic policies’ impact in New Mexico, positioning him as the first NM Republican to address a national convention in over a decade. The event, dubbed “Trump-a-palooza,” reflects the party’s push for momentum—but whether it sparks a surge or fades into background depends on how candidates balance national stage vs. grassroots strategy.
