The Church is sometimes called "The Body of Christ." It's a useful metaphor for thinking about our relationship to other Christians. There are lots of us who look differently, think differently, have different skills - and yet, are united.

But where did this metaphor come from? Why do we use it? What does it mean for us to be "members" of the body of Christ?

Instead, the Christian faith gives its adherents a certain confidence in the beliefs they hold about the past, the present, and the future.
