S2, Ep6 COMMANDER Framework Part 5: Allowances
Context tells you where you are.
Objective tells you where you're going.
Meaning tells you why it matters.
Mandate determines who has the authority to act.
Allowances define how far that authority extends.
In Episode 6 of Season 2, Doc Reo continues breaking down the COMMANDER Framework, a Signalproof execution framework designed to help people work with AI with greater clarity, control, efficiency, and continuity.
The next element is A for Allowances.
Giving an AI system authority is not enough.
You also need to define the boundaries around that authority.
What can it access? What can it change? What must it never do? What requires human approval? How much money, time, compute, or tokens can it use? And what should happen when the system becomes uncertain?
Those are allowances.
A vague instruction like “be safe” is not a boundary. Effective guardrails need to describe the actual permissions, prohibitions, limits, and escalation rules surrounding the mission.
Too much freedom creates exposure.
Too many restrictions can create paralysis.
The goal is controlled operating space.
🎯 Inside this conversation:
– Why installing or connecting AI without understanding its permissions can create problems
– The difference between Mandate and Allowances
– Why permissions and prohibitions belong in the same command structure
– What AI should be allowed to access, modify, spend, or disclose
– Why escalation to a human needs to be designed into the system
– How excessive restrictions can be just as problematic as unlimited authority
– Why concrete boundaries can actually improve AI performance
– How COMMANDER balances autonomy, authority, permissions, and control
