The Ten Commandments: Episode Ten
In the second season of Red River Reformed, we will be discussing the Ten Commandments through their original meaning, their fulfilment in the New Testament, and their ongoing application for us today. In this episode we discuss the eighth commandment.
The eighth commandment, "You shall not steal," God protects the material gifts and goods that he has given to persons for their sustenance and enjoyment. We are called to be content with what God provides for us as we work diligently and seek to give to others. We are being conformed to the image of Christ, who was rich beyond measure but became poor for us.
We will release episodes weekly on Tuesdays. If you have questions comment or email us! (redriverreformed@gmail.com) We will do a mailbag episode at the end of the season.
Here are some questions we discuss in this episode:
- What is stealing?
- How should we think about ownership of material goods and wealth as biblical Christians
- How is this commandment specifically applied throughout Old Testament case law? Where does this apply today?
- What underlying idolatry is addressed in the eighth commandment?
- What is the biblical pattern for addressing theft?
- Why is the principal of restitution an appropriate and useful response to the sin and crime of theft?
- What are the positive implications of this commandment?
- How does Christ and his Gospel reframe the way we think about money, wealth, and power as Christians?
- How is work related to this commandment?
