Depression doesn't always look like sadness.
Sometimes it goes to work. It answers the phone. It takes care of family. It laughs. It tells people, “I'm fine.”
And sometimes the person carrying the heaviest weight in the room is the person nobody realizes is carrying anything at all.
In Episode 4 of Inner Warrior: A Mental Health Podcast, Matt Brower explores depression through the metaphor of an invisible backpack: the weight someone may carry beneath a life that looks completely functional from the outside.
This conversation explores what depression can feel like beyond the stereotypes, the exhaustion of carrying invisible weight, the judgment people can face when they're struggling, why seemingly small accomplishments may require enormous effort, and what it can mean to simply walk beside someone rather than trying to fix them.
Whether depression is part of your own story or you want to better understand someone you care about, this episode is an invitation to look beyond what you can see.
You are more than what you carry.
