  • With a Little Help from My Friends - Dave Richards | Episode #498
    2026/08/31
Right Thinking with Steve Coplon | Guest: Dave Richards

This week's show is called "With a Little Help from My Friends - Dave Richards". Tune in and hear Steve continue the countdown to his 500th show by honoring Dave Richards, the man whom Steve thanks for taking him under his wing and doing all of the heavy lifting to get Right Thinking Foundation off the ground. Dave has stayed with Steve since the beginning, over 14 years ago, to help Steve reach thousands of people who need a helping hand to move their lives forward. It is one of the greatest blessings and good fortunes in Steve’s life to be Dave’s friend. It is a pleasure for Steve to share Dave, a great humanitarian, with you today.

In this episode, we continue our countdown to our 500th show by looking back at our long collaboration with Dave Richards and his early support in helping us start the Right Thinking Foundation. We talk about our shared prison visits and the work of preparing people for reentry through job training, interview skills, mentoring, and practical support. We also hear Dave reflect on his upbringing, the values shaped by his parents, and the influence of quotes like “The Man in the Arena” and “Desiderata.” He explains his view of success as a step-by-step process built on planning, consistency, humility, and willingness to take honest work.

Finally, we discuss his work with Concursive and the Connect platform, which helps people build communities, action plans, and accountability around issues such as reentry, food insecurity, autism support, and working with Gold Star families. He closes with advice to prepare, stay humble, avoid workplace drama, and keep going with help from others.

This week's show is called "With a Little Help from My Friends - Steve Forbes". Tune in and hear Steve continue the countdown to his 500th show by bringing on Steve Forbes to deliver a powerful message of hope to all those who need a second chance in life. In this episode, we reflect on how our friendship began and how it led to prison visits, mentoring, and the work of the Right Thinking Foundation. We discuss the meaning of “You Gotta Stay Between the Lines Every Day” in terms of discipline, responsibility, and staying on a steady path.

We also share Steve Forbes’ story, including his early involvement with drugs and crime, his prison sentence at 19, and the structure he found through Bible study and prison ministry. After returning home, he built his life around church, family, and daily discipline, and we talk about how his barbershop and barber school are meant to support and mentor returning citizens. We close with testimony from people connected to the shop and with Steve’s encouragement to people who are still incarcerated to stay hopeful and ask for help.
