This week's show is called "With a Little Help from My Friends - Dave Richards". Tune in and hear Steve continue the countdown to his 500th show by honoring Dave Richards, the man whom Steve thanks for taking him under his wing and doing all of the heavy lifting to get Right Thinking Foundation off the ground. Dave has stayed with Steve since the beginning, over 14 years ago, to help Steve reach thousands of people who need a helping hand to move their lives forward. It is one of the greatest blessings and good fortunes in Steve’s life to be Dave’s friend. It is a pleasure for Steve to share Dave, a great humanitarian, with you today.
In this episode, we continue our countdown to our 500th show by looking back at our long collaboration with Dave Richards and his early support in helping us start the Right Thinking Foundation. We talk about our shared prison visits and the work of preparing people for reentry through job training, interview skills, mentoring, and practical support. We also hear Dave reflect on his upbringing, the values shaped by his parents, and the influence of quotes like “The Man in the Arena” and “Desiderata.” He explains his view of success as a step-by-step process built on planning, consistency, humility, and willingness to take honest work.
Finally, we discuss his work with Concursive and the Connect platform, which helps people build communities, action plans, and accountability around issues such as reentry, food insecurity, autism support, and working with Gold Star families. He closes with advice to prepare, stay humble, avoid workplace drama, and keep going with help from others.
