From heartbreaking breaking news to celebrity controversy and inspiring second acts, the Rickey Smiley Morning Show delivers an episode packed with emotion, debate and nostalgia. The team reports on the shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, where a 16-year-old gunman killed three children—ages 5, 8 and 11—and a teacher before a community member followed him inside and fatally shot him; a 7-year-old child and another teacher were critically injured, and authorities said the motive remained under investigation. Gary With the Tea then unpacks Kelly Clarkson’s clash with Brooklyn novelty shop Art of Play after she said an employee treated her as though she could not afford a $15,000 singing-bird automaton. The store says its wall-mounted mascot was not for sale and that it offered alternatives, while silent security footage confirms Clarkson’s visit lasted less than five minutes but cannot resolve what was said or how it was said.

On a brighter note, six-time NBA All-Star and 2026 Basketball Hall of Fame inductee Amar’e Stoudemire graduates from Miami Dade College’s Basic Law Enforcement Academy, fulfilling a childhood goal inspired by his family’s law-enforcement tradition. After receiving the Harry “Coach” Everett Award for his contributions during training, he is preparing to continue training with the Miami-Dade Schools Police Department. The show also turns up the classic R&B anticipation as Case and Carl Thomas prepare for an October 22 VERZUZ showdown, matching Case favorites such as “Touch Me, Tease Me,” “Happily Ever After” and “Missing You” against Thomas staples including “I Wish,” “Summer Rain” and “Emotional.” Plus, the crew keeps the laughs coming with a debate over everyday habits adults have left behind.
