In Revelation 12, John sees a “great wonder in heaven”—a “woman clothed with the sun…and upon her head a crown of twelve stars.” The Catholic interpretation assigns this image to Mary, the mother of Jesus, to help prove their claim that she is now the Queen of heaven. On July 16, 1251, a Catholic priest named Simon Stock claimed to have a vision of Mary. At the time, he was the sixth Superior General of the Carmelite Order (a group of friars based in Cambridge, England).
