    2026/06/30
June is Alzheimer’s and Brain (Health) Awareness Month. New diagnostics, therapies, AI-powered tools and caregiver support solutions are transforming what's possible for people living with dementia and for the families who care for them. Our guests today are part of that exciting movement.Sam Scott introduced a portable retinal imaging OCT (Optical Coherence Tomography) device called Neuro-i SS-OCT for early detection and monitoring of neurodegenerative and optical diseases, including Alzheimer’s Disease. It is pre-FDA approval. Supported by AI and automation, it is easy to use and collect data. Sam mentioned the potential for OCT in retail optical chains and big box pharmacies.Ger Schuivens presented Crdl, a beautiful wood device for enhancing human connection, expression and wellbeing through music and touch for dementia patients who have lost the majority of their communication capabilities. It can be used with two people, a circle or a chain of 200 people holding hands. Created in the Netherlands, Eugeria is the distributor in the USA and Canada. Priced at $9,500 for memory care communities and individuals. Mo Abouelsoud explained in delightfully plain language his company's non-invasive electrical stimulation headband, which showed significant improvements in Alzheimer's patients in a clinical study published in 2024. U: The Mind also has clinically studied versions for Parkinson's and coming soon calming for dogs. Their NeuroEdge is a consumer-grade wellness device built on their neurostimulation platform. Designed for everyday focus, clarity, and cognitive performance at home priced at $350.Recorded on June 25, 2026, this episode is part of our Dementia and Brain Health Series. • Social Connection and Mental Health
    2026/06/07
Our May 28th, 2026, our episode focused on social isolation and its impact on mental health, particularly among older adults. May is Mental Health Awareness Month. Providing an overview, Maureen Feldman noted that one in three older adults reports feeling lonely, with loneliness linked to higher rates of depression, anxiety, and cognitive decline. Social disconnection does not just affect older adults; younger generations are struggling with this as well. Maureen also pointed out the social isolation suffered by family caregivers. “Humans are wired for connection."Kyle Rand explained Rendever's use of virtual reality to combat social isolation, noting a 62% reduction in depression in dementia patients and a 67% reduction in caregiver burden. Kyle noted that the one stat that really sticks with people is that social isolation is as detrimental to one's health as smoking 15 cigarettes per day. Rendever emphasizes the benefits of positive shared experiences to be the foundation of human connection. Dana Griffin introduced Eldera.ai, which pairs adults over the age of 60 with young people, providing benefits to both sides of the pair, mental and physical health and fostering intergenerational relationships. “We believe (people over 60) are the holders of our humanity, they are the last generation who grew up without technology and can truly understand human values and can share human values.” “We have a community of these people all over the country who support each other in being better mentors, and because they are so values aligned, being part of Eldera and giving their time and wisdom to the next generation - They started forming friendships and going on walks and creating micro support circles so they can all age in place successfully. But we don't do this through care, we do this through purpose and through meaning."Recorded on May 28, 2026, this episode is part of our Social Isolation and Mental Health Series. • Thine AI Companion, Care2U Mobile Urgent Care, Lunalino Home
    2026/05/28

Our May 14, 2026 Project Updates episode featured Care2U Mobile Urgent Care, Thine AI Companion and Lunalino Home.

Lon Hecht, CEO of Care2You, explained their innovative model, which replaces ER visits and hospitalizations with in-home care. The model involves deploying clinicians like physician assistants, nurse practitioners, or paramedics to the home, accompanied by ER or hospitalist physicians via telehealth to patients' homes within 2-4 hours. Care2You treats complex medical needs, including pneumonia and congestive heart failure, COPD, infections, and dehydration (not immediately life threatening like heart attacks and head injuries), at a third of the cost of hospital care. We discussed the challenges and costs of using this model to solve the needs of rural care. Care2U also serves Senior Living communities.

King Lunalilo Trust provides long-term care and adult day care at Lunalino Home, as well as meal delivery services, grounded in Hawaiian culture and values. CEO Keola Dean described how Lunalino Home is able to provide unique entertainment and activities donated by a community that highly respects King Lunalino, who is fondly remembered as a progressive monarch.

Pratyush Rai described the concept of Thine, an AI platform designed to understand people with deeper context through conversations and other digital interactions. Thine was the next step after Foyer’s Merlin.

Pratyush highlighted the benefits of Thine for both young people and older adults, helping to manage information and improve productivity.

Linda Sherman has been beta testing Thine since May 1st and found it is unique in learning ambiently and piecing together conversations and environments. Thine can perform directed AI agent types of tasks when you connect it to your Google Drive and gmail. It also works with Slack. She has recently given her Thine a name - Richard - inspired by Linda’s relationship with her friend Richard Sherman who wrote the original music in our podcast intro and outro called Serenity.

Recorded on May 14, 2026, this episode is part of our Project Updates Series. Speakers are listed in their order of appearance.

  • Longevity with Sensate and Elemind
    2026/03/21

We featured two founder CEO’s with outstanding, affordable longevity products. Both of these brilliant women and their teams provided ten minute lie-down experiences for attendees in the AgeTech Collaborative from AARP pavilion at CES 2026.

Anna Gudmundson explained how Sensate uses low-frequency sound vibrations to tune the vagus nerve. She noted the results of a study conducted in Lisbon which demonstrated significant reductions in heart rate and stress-related brainwaves after using Sensate. Users easily carry their Sensate’s around, enjoying meditation and calming where they wish to have it. Reviews show that Sensate has been effective for panic attack sufferers and fosters long term stress management and resilience.

Meredith Perry introduced the Elemind wearable headband that uses sound pulses to help users fall asleep faster and improve deep sleep. The product, which has a median sleep onset time of 10 minutes, was tested at CES 2026, where it successfully put people to sleep amidst the show's noise. Meredith has also been seen in noisy spots from a ferry to outside a Giants football game tailgate with Elemind’s “Sleep with Our CEO” campaign. Debbie Howard commented how light and comfortable Elemind is.

Sleep Awareness Week 2026 was March 8-14.

Recorded on March 12, 2026, this episode is part of our Longevity and CES Highlights Series. Both Elemind and Sensate are AgeTech Collaborative from AARP portfolio companies. Speakers are listed in their order of appearance.
