What if the most important thing about a beautifully designed room isn't how it looks, but how your brain experiences it?

Our environments are constantly communicating with us through light, colour, contrast, texture, and pattern—even when we're not consciously paying attention.

In this episode of Renovation Secrets, we explore the fascinating connections between neuroscience, nature's mathematical patterns, the ancient Vitruvian Triad, and modern architectural design. We'll challenge the assumption that minimalism automatically creates calm, examine why visual complexity isn't necessarily chaos, and reveal the one element that influences everything we see: light.

I'll also share why, after more than two decades in kitchen and bath design, I'm evolving Detail by Design toward specialized architectural lighting design—and why this shift is about much more than choosing beautiful fixtures.

Because a room can look extraordinary in a photograph and still fail the people living in it.
