概要

Coming up on Here and Now, we celebrate the life and legacy of Rev. Jesse Jackson, the pioneering Civil Rights leader. Jesse Jackson was a major player on the world stage for over five decades. His moral vision and fiery oratory reflective of what he believes was the promise of America -- a promise he was determined to see kept for every American. His "Keep, Hope, Live" was more than just a catchphrase, it was his calling. The Reverend died this past week at the age of 84, and tributes have been pouring in. In 2017, Here and Now sat down with Jackson for a one-on-one interview. He spoke about concerns with Donald Trump taking office during his fire term and emphasized a call to action for future generations. Since the 1960s, Jackson remained at the center of the fight for equality. In 2018, the National Urban League honored him with a lifetime achievement award in recognition of his leadership. Joining us to discuss is a man who spends much of his time fighting for social justice, Marc Morial, president of the National Urban League. Back then, Jackson ran for the Democratic presidential nomination twice, mobilizing millions of new voters. Although he didn't win, his historic campaigns paved the way for other candidates, most notably the election of former President Barack Obama. ABC News Political Director Averi Harper joins our program to talk more about Jackson's impact of politics, especially on the Democratic Party. Learn more about your ad choices.
