Mark put the cleansing of the temple between the accounts of the fruitless fig tree to connect the disciples with Jeremiah 7 and 8. It went along with Jesus prediction of the destruction of Jerusalem and the horror that would come to pass. That is why He wept. He looks for fruit in our lives too.
