In Revelation 12 and 13, we get a behind-the-scenes look at apocalyptic eschatological events. Seven characters are revealed, and John explains them rather clearly. The focus of these chapters includes Israel, Jesus Christ, Satan, the Beast, and the False Prophet.

We see the beauty of God’s character even in this dramatic narrative. We see Him holding fast to those who are in Christ from before the foundation of the earth through the end of the earth and beyond. We see His justice and His victory over sin.

Sin’s control over this earth is temporal and fleeting. God is on the throne even when we feel as if we are surrounded by chaos. This behind-the-scenes look reveals the awfulness and power of sin, and it reveals the power and ultimate control of God. We can find comfort in this assurance.
