A business rises to the level of its marketing — temporarily — and falls to the level of its leadership, permanently. Chris Cooper spent a decade mentoring thousands of entrepreneurs, leading teams across multiple businesses, and building partnerships with major sponsors — and found the same pattern every time. It was never knowledge, work ethic, or tactics that separated the leaders who succeeded from the ones who didn't. It was leadership itself. Realms of Leadership breaks that big, fuzzy idea into four parts: leading yourself, leading your team, leading your peers, and leading your tribe. Each week — or whenever there's something worth saying — Chris shares the hard-won lessons from his own mistakes, plus conversations with people who've actually demonstrated real skill in one of these four realms. No theory. No recycled opinions. Just tactical tools you can put into practice immediately. • Nick Castiglia on Self-Leadership, Tribes, and Building Legacy Martial Arts Consulting
    2026/08/16

In this episode, I sit down with Nick Castiglia, a Brazilian jiu-jitsu European champion, gym owner, and the founder of Legacy Martial Arts Consulting, who coaches martial arts school owners with a “help first” philosophy.

Nick shares how being bullied as a kid led him into martial arts, how teaching and mentorship shaped his path into ownership and coaching, and why self-leadership means staying aligned with what matters while still feeling real human emotions.

We talk about daily practices like journaling and training, hard-earned leadership lessons like hiring slow and firing faster, and the importance of curating your circle based on mission, morals, and values.

Nick also explains Tribalnomics concepts like overlap and offset in tribes, discusses healthy ways for students to branch out, and outlines his long-term goal of improving safety and standardization in martial arts through stronger regulation.

  • The Four Realms of Leadership
    2026/08/18

I’m Chris Cooper, and in this first episode of Realms of Leadership I explain why businesses, movements, and missions ultimately stall because of leadership, not markets, capital, or sales process.

After mentoring over 3,500 first-time entrepreneurs, I saw leadership as the common denominator between those who succeeded, struggled, or failed.

In this episode, I break leadership into four actionable "realms": self-leadership, team leadership, peer leadership, and tribe leadership—and show how strengths or weaknesses in one realm amplify the others.

I also argue that today’s distraction culture is a leadership problem and that positive leadership must start with leading yourself toward being healthier, wealthier, and happier.

To help you begin immediately, I introduce a practical tool: self-authoring—writing your past, present, and future—and offer a free self-authoring journal at realmsofleadership.com.

5 Leadership Balance Mistakes I Made (and How to Stay in the Middle)

In this episode of Realms of Leadership, I explain how my biggest team leadership mistakes all came from losing balance—caring too much about one person or the mission, taking too much ownership or giving away too much control, being resolute but overbearing, acting aggressively but recklessly, and holding accountability with too much hand-holding.

I share five examples from my career, including delaying firing an underperformer, quietly taking tasks back from an employee because it was faster, enforcing unwritten rules while keeping a mental scorecard, changing systems without explaining why, and ambushing staff with surprise evaluations.

I conclude that the way to find and hold the balance point is to decide standards calmly in advance, write them down, communicate the what/how/why, and apply them consistently so the team can trust predictable leadership.
