Reality Check is where functional health meets physique (and real life).

Hosted by Jill and Jess of Fueled Health, this podcast goes beyond surface-level wellness advice to explore what actually drives energy, metabolism, hormones, and long-term health.

Each episode breaks down the conversations most women are already having behind the scenes — why symptoms get dismissed, why “doing everything right” still isn’t working, and how to take a more strategic, data-informed approach to health.

Expect honest conversations about:

• functional testing and root-cause health

• hormones, metabolism, and performance

• navigating confusing health advice

• lifestyle strategy that actually works in real life

• what the wellness industry gets wrong

Whether you're a high-performing professional, entrepreneur, or simply someone tired of guessing about your health, Reality Check is designed to help you understand your body and make smarter, more informed decisions.

Because better health doesn’t come from more information (we have enough of that these days) — it comes from clarity and realistic application.

New episodes weekly.

  • Ep. 121 You Can’t Supplement Your Way Out of This: When Functional Health Gets Too Complicated
    2026/09/23

Text us to let us know what you want to hear on the podcast!

Functional health was supposed to help us look deeper. But somewhere along the way, “looking deeper” started to mean more labs, more supplements, more protocols, more peptides, and more things to optimize.

In this episode, we’re talking about what happens when functional health becomes so complicated that we overlook the conditions the body is actually being asked to function under.

Because if you’re sleeping five hours a night, chronically under-fueling, training intensely six days a week, relying on caffeine to get through the day, barely recovering, and living under constant stress, another supplement stack may not be the intervention your body needs most.

We break down why expensive testing can feel more personalized than being told to eat enough, sleep more, reduce training volume, or address your workload. We also unpack why “simple” recommendations can be some of the hardest changes to make.

    Inside this episode, we cover:

    • When functional medicine and advanced lab testing are genuinely useful
    • Why hormones, cortisol, thyroid, gut health, and metabolic symptoms still have to be interpreted inside the context of your actual life
    • The problem with trying to supplement around chronic under-fueling, poor sleep, overtraining, and stress
    • Why “reduce stress” is incomplete advice unless someone helps you change what is creating the stress
    • How optimization culture can distract you from the health behaviors with the largest impact
    • Our Foundations → Investigate → Target framework for deciding what actually deserves your attention
    • Why good functional care should combine labs and targeted interventions with nutrition, strength training, recovery, behavior change, and your real-world environment

This isn’t an argument against functional labs, supplements, medication, peptides, HRT, or deeper investigation. Those tools can be incredibly valuable when they answer a meaningful clinical question.

The point is that none of them make your foundational needs optional.

Your body isn’t a biohacking project. It’s a system constantly responding to the environment you give it.

And sometimes the deepest answer isn’t another test.

It’s realizing you can’t supplement your way out of a life your body can’t sustainably keep up with.

  • Ep. 120 Why You Can’t Stay Consistent With Healthy Habits, Even When You Know What to Do: The Psychology of Behavior Changes
    2026/09/16

Text us to let us know what you want to hear on the podcast!

You know you should work out. You know sleep matters. You know you feel better when you meal prep, drink enough water, eat enough protein, and stop scrolling before bed.

So why is it still so hard to consistently do the things you already know are good for you?

In this episode of Reality Check with Jess and Jill, Jess and Jill break down the gap between health knowledge and behavior change, and why more information, motivation, or “accountability” often isn’t the solution.

They discuss how good coaching goes beyond telling someone what they should do and starts identifying what is actually getting in the way. A missed workout could come from gym intimidation, an unrealistic schedule, decision fatigue, lack of preparation, or simply choosing a form of exercise you hate. Each barrier requires a different solution.

You’ll learn how to reduce friction around healthy habits, lower the barrier to entry, create systems that require less daily decision-making, and recognize when discipline really is part of the answer.

Jess and Jill also apply these principles to exercise consistency, protein intake, vegetables, daily steps, bedtime habits, meal prep, and revenge bedtime procrastination.

Because sustainable behavior change isn’t about finding a hack that makes everything easy. It’s about understanding why a behavior keeps breaking down, designing your environment and routine around that information, and developing the skills to eventually execute without needing someone to hold you accountable.

    In This Episode:

    • Why knowing what to do doesn’t guarantee behavior change
    • The difference between health education, accountability, and coaching
    • Why “try harder” is usually incomplete advice
    • How to identify the actual barrier behind inconsistent habits
    • Why the perfect workout plan can still be the wrong plan
    • How friction influences your daily health decisions
    • How to make healthy habits easier to execute
    • When discipline really does matter
    • Why some unhealthy behaviors are meeting legitimate emotional or lifestyle needs
    • How coaching can build independence instead of dependence
    • Practical strategies for workouts, sleep, protein, steps, vegetables, and meal prep

The question isn’t only, “Why can’t I make myself do this?” A better place to start is: “What specifically makes this difficult for me, and how can I make it easier to execute?”

  • Ep. 119 The Health Hierarchy: What to Focus on First for Better Hormones, Gut Health, Fat Loss & Longevity
    2026/09/09

Text us to let us know what you want to hear on the podcast!

Everyone wants to optimize their hormones, reduce inflammation, improve gut health, lose fat, and age well.

The problem is that more health strategies do not automatically create better health.

In this episode of Reality Check, Jess and Jill break down the health hierarchy and explain why something can be good for your health without being the most important thing for your health right now.

We talk about why people often prioritize advanced interventions like supplements, peptides, functional testing, red light therapy, sauna, vibration plates, food elimination, and wearables while foundational inputs like adequate calories, protein, strength training, walking, sleep, hydration, and recovery are still inconsistent.

The conversation walks through a practical hierarchy for deciding what actually deserves your attention.

    We cover:

    • Why “advanced” health strategies can become a distraction
    • The difference between adequacy, foundational habits, individual barriers, targeted interventions, and optimization
    • Why under-eating can limit progress even when food quality is excellent
    • Why strength training belongs at the foundation of women’s health
    • When hormones, thyroid function, insulin resistance, gut dysfunction, iron status, medications, and perimenopause deserve deeper investigation
    • When gluten or dairy removal may actually make sense
    • Where HRT, peptides, GLP-1s, supplements, and functional testing fit
    • Why sauna, cold exposure, red light therapy, wearables, and vibration plates belong later for many people
    • How to decide whether a health intervention is actually solving the problem you have
    • Why sequencing matters more than trying to do everything at once

We also give you a simple decision filter to use before adding another health strategy:

What problem am I trying to solve?

What evidence suggests this intervention addresses that problem?

Is there still a larger foundational limitation?

Can I actually execute this consistently?

How will I know whether it worked?

Your health plan does not need every beneficial practice at once.

It needs to address your greatest current limitation in the correct sequence.

Something can be valuable and still belong later.
