  • He Confessed to a Murder He Didn't Commit. He Was 16. | Jeffrey Deskovic
    2026/10/04

A detective told a 16-year-old "I'm your friend." Seven hours later the boy confessed to a murder he didn't commit. Jeffrey Deskovic spent the next 16 years in a maximum-security prison for it.

The DNA never matched him. The jury convicted him anyway.

This is not a true crime episode. It's the story of what a person does with the years that were taken from him. Jeff walked out of prison at 32 with no money, no driver's license, no idea how a cell phone worked, and a decision to make about whether to spend the rest of his life angry. He chose the other thing. Today he's an attorney, the founder of the Jeffrey Deskovic Foundation for Justice, and the reason 15 other wrongfully convicted people are free.

Angela asks him the questions a mother would ask: how a kid who had never been in trouble ends up in an interrogation room without his parents knowing, what it was like to be told "you're going home tomorrow" and not believe it, and what freedom feels like after sixteen years.

If you have a teenager, watch the segment at 4:00. Then send it to them.

  • NO DEGREE. NO EXCUSES
    2026/09/13

He dropped out of college at 19 and started a landscaping company with no money. No degree, no capital, no safety net. At 24 he owns the business and has built a second career as a real estate agent. His parents' divorce shaped him. He says it didn't define him.

Evan Webster is the owner of Active Landscape, serving Middle Tennessee, and a realtor with Exit Prime Realty, helping buyers and sellers through the biggest transaction of their lives. He's also Angela's son, and this is the first time they've had this conversation on the record.

Evan ran a lemonade stand at 7 and was mowing neighbors' yards by 12. He went to college because it was the expected path, left after a short stint against his father's advice, and went all in on the business with nothing in the bank. What followed was the part nobody posts about: the financial strain of keeping a young company alive, the months where the numbers didn't work, and the harder problem of finding employees who would show up and care the way he did.

In this episode: growing up in a divided home, the coaches who stepped in when it mattered, the brother he leaned on, what it actually costs to build a business from zero, how he moved into real estate, why he believes work ethic is learned rather than inherited, and the faith that kept him steady through all of it.

If you're a parent who pushed college, or a young adult with more drive than money, this one's for you. Send it to the person who needs to hear it.

  • Breast Implant Illness: The Symptoms My Doctors Kept Missing
    2026/08/30

At 56, Lauren Clement walked onto a pageant stage for the first time in her life. She won.

But this conversation isn't really about pageants. It's about the years before — being dismissed by doctors, losing herself inside her own roles, and quietly wondering whether the interesting part of her life had already happened.

Lauren is a DNP-prepared nurse executive, nurse faculty member, author, and patient advocate. She's also a breast implant illness survivor who spent a long time being told her symptoms were nothing. In this episode she and Angela talk about self-advocacy inside a healthcare system that doesn't always listen, about what reinvention actually costs, and about the moment she stopped asking "am I too old?" and started asking "why not me?"

If you have ever thought your story was already written — this one is for you.

    💬 WHAT WE TALK ABOUT

Saying yes at 56 — and what it cost to do it

  • What Nobody Tells You About Owning A Salon | Emmi Prince | Hair Hustle & Hair
    2026/08/16

The Reality of Being a Mom & Entrepreneur on One Income
What does it really look like to be a mom, an entrepreneur, and responsible for your own income?
In this episode of Real Life Rewritten, we have a raw and honest conversation about the side of salon ownership that people don't always see.
We talk about being moms building businesses on a single income, the financial uncertainty that comes with self-employment, and what happens when life throws you an unexpected curveball.
When your child gets sick, you get sick, or life simply requires you to step away from the salon, there is no PTO, no paid sick leave, and no guaranteed paycheck. If you're not working, you're often not getting paid.
We also talk about the realities of the salon industry today—from the rising cost of professional products and supplies to the pressure of maintaining a steady income while operating a business.
And then there's the emotional side of being behind the chair.
As hairstylists, we build relationships with our clients. We listen to their stories, celebrate their milestones, support them through difficult times, and sometimes feel incredibly connected to the people sitting in our chairs. But what happens when that relationship doesn't always feel equally personal to the client?
We get real about boundaries—and how difficult it can be to balance:
    • Mom time
• Salon time
• Business responsibilities
• Accounting and administrative work
• Family obligations
• Client relationships
• And finding time for yourself
This isn't just a conversation about hair.
It's about work, motherhood, money, boundaries, resilience, and the realities of rewriting your life while still trying to keep everything together.
If you've ever felt like you're doing everything yourself, trying to provide for your family while building a business, or wondering how you're supposed to make it all work—this conversation is for you.
    Welcome to Real Life Rewritten.

    2026/08/09

Real Life Rewritten with Angela Renee | Leah Crose, Singer-Songwriter: "Chasing Dreams"Ten years ago, Leah Crose left Ohio for Nashville with a Craigslist roommate and no safety net. Today she's a working singer-songwriter with a new single out — and some honest things to say about what chasing a dream actually costs. In this episode, Leah sits down with host Angela Renee for a real conversation about the parts of the music business nobody posts about. She talks about playing the honky-tonks on Lower Broadway and why, after years of sharpening her craft there, she's come to see it as a nine-to-five. She opens up about the rock band that was snowballing right up until COVID ended it, the pressure Nashville puts on new artists to write constantly, and the advice that finally let her stop grinding and start writing better songs. She also shares the story behind her new single "The Driver" — written for Quinn, her best friend of more than twenty years — and the prank she pulled to play it for her the first time.
