Dom Torres and Kyla Denanyoh overanalyze The Real Housewives of New York Season 16, Episode 3, where New York City itself might be our favorite Housewife.
Kyla is officially homesick for a city she has never lived in. Between the architecture, fall in New York, subway entrances, oversized sunglasses, and people casually ignoring camera crews on the sidewalk, RHONY feels like a love letter to the city. And Daisy Toye is quickly becoming a favorite, from casually calling Martha Stewart for advice to proudly showing off her rent-controlled apartment and taking us home to Brooklyn to meet her family.
That leads to a bigger question when watching ANY Housewives show: When did wealth become the personality instead of the backdrop? Dom is officially over Jessel Taank’s snobbery, while Erika Hammond’s comments about chefs, grocery stores, and her lifestyle leave both Dom and Kyla conflicted. There’s a difference between watching someone live an affluent life and watching someone make affluence their entire identity. Daisy somehow has Martha Stewart on speed dial while still feeling like the most grounded person in the room.
Meanwhile, Hailey Glassman’s fascinating backstory keeps getting more complicated. She explains how tennis brought her to college before drug-testing requirements changed her plans, and how she later met Jon Gosselin while he was staying in her mother’s basement. Hailey says Jon and Kate were already separated, though the public didn't know it, and describes the tabloid frenzy that followed their relationship as part of what eventually pushed her toward PR.
Dom doesn’t necessarily believe Hailey broke up the marriage, but he also doesn’t fully buy the innocent-bystander version of the story. Dom Torres feels like it should be understood that dating a very recognizable reality star who publicly appeared to still be married with eight children was always going to attract attention. And now we need to know more about this entire family because why exactly was Jon Gosselin living in her mother’s basement?
Dom likes Hailey for the show. Whether he actually likes Hailey is becoming a different question. Kyla Denanyoh is being entertained by Hailey, and enjoys the vulnerability when Hailey described how traumatizing it was to be thought of as someone who broke up a renowned marriage. The RHONY cast is fascinating!
