Emmy-nominated comedian, actress, writer, producer and all-around powerhouse Michelle Buteau joins Jill Rappaport for a hilarious, heartfelt and refreshingly candid conversation about her soaring career, fabulous family—and the rescue dogs who have changed her life. Michelle opens up about starring in Spa Weekend, saying goodbye to her beloved Netflix series Survival of the Thickest, making her directorial debut, raising seven-year-old twins and why finding happiness and using her voice matter more than simply chasing the next big career milestone. Then the conversation turns to the passion that instantly bonded Michelle and Jill: animal rescue. Michelle reveals why she made the conscious decision to adopt big black dogs that are so often overlooked in shelters and shares the touching story of Lola Falana, the 110-pound “lap mastiff” who helped heal her after a miscarriage and later became an extraordinary companion to her children. She also introduces the family’s lovable mastiff-pit mix Whitney Houston and reflects on the devastating loss of her first fur baby, Roxy. Funny, inspiring and filled with heart, it’s Michelle Buteau as you may never have heard her before—and a beautiful reminder that sometimes the animal you rescue ends up rescuing you right back.
