The Rangers cannot build their 2027 roster around the hope that every struggling player suddenly bounces back.
With Milwaukee and Tampa Bay headed to the World Series, Austin examines how Chris Young and Texas keep spending and developing without getting the results they need. He argues that difficult personnel decisions are overdue, particularly with Evan Carter, Wyatt Langford, and the club's young pitching. There's also Sebastian Walcott's outfield work, the uncertainty behind the plate, Justin Viele's hitting program, Jake Burger's splits, and a hypothetical Corey Seager trade. Along the way, Austin revisits the 2010 and 2011 pennant teams, reflects on why winning organizations cannot settle for comfortable decisions, and sends off retiring 2023 champion Mitch Garver before making his World Series prediction.
Corrections: Texas scored 684 runs in 2025 (22nd in MLB) and 673 runs in 2026 (25th), rather than finishing bottom five both seasons. Mitch Garver joined Texas in a March 2022 trade with Minnesota, not as a free-agent signing.
