On this episode of Randomness with Heath and Josh, the guys sit down with Temple, Texas native and locomotive engineer Robert Goates for a fascinating conversation about growing up in Central Texas, family traditions, and life on the railroad.

Robert talks about growing up in Temple before moving to the small town of Academy, Texas, for high school. After graduation, his plan was to pursue a career in radio—but life had other plans. Instead, Robert took a hard turn and followed in the footsteps of his dad, grandfather, and uncle, beginning a career as a locomotive conductor and eventually becoming an engineer.

Robert explains what a conductor actually does, what the engineer's responsibilities are, and how the two work together to safely operate a massive freight train. He also talks about the people who still attempt to hitch rides on trains—often referred to as “hobos”—and why it happens more often than you might think, although not nearly as much as some people imagine.

The conversation gets even more interesting as Robert takes Heath and Josh inside the locomotive, explaining the engines, horsepower, weight, pulling capacity, and even the basic layout of the locomotive. He also explains why cabooses have largely disappeared from modern freight trains and what their job used to be.

It's a fun, entertaining, and surprisingly informational episode that gives listeners a behind-the-scenes look at an industry most of us see every day but know very little about. All aboard for another episode of Randomness with Heath and Josh!

On this episode of Randomness with Heath and Josh, the guys sit down with photographer, homesteader, and fellow Temple, Texas native Josh Quinn for an incredible conversation about walking away from everything and starting over in the Rocky Mountains.

Josh takes us back to his early days as a photojournalist for the Temple Daily Telegram, where an unexpected Associated Press photography award gave him the motivation to pursue photography at an even higher level. But after facing some serious personal struggles, including struggles with alcohol, Josh eventually made a life-changing decision—he simply packed up the essentials, grabbed a tent, and headed to Colorado to live “off the grid.”

Near Trinidad, Colorado, Josh began building a completely different life for himself in the mountains. He shares stories about some of his wild encounters with wildlife, the challenges of surviving in the wilderness, and the unlikely friendships he made along the way—including an elderly couple who also homesteads nearby. The neighbors quickly became friends who look out for one another and regularly share breakfast together.

Josh also explains how the harsh Colorado winters eventually forced him to build a small cabin to protect himself from the cold and the dangers of nature. Through it all, photography remained a huge part of his life, and he talks about his passion for capturing the incredible beauty of the mountains and the surrounding wilderness.

From cooking meals in the ground over an open fire with the Rocky Mountains as his backdrop to learning how to survive with very little, Josh’s story is one of stepping away from the life he knew and discovering a new path in the wild.

It's a story about photography, survival, friendship, second chances, and what happens when you decide to just… leave.

Sean takes us back to the role that put him on the map—Roach in The People Under the Stairs—and tells the story of becoming the original “Got Milk?” commercial actor, a role that helped launch his career to another level. He also shares some crazy behind-the-scenes stories from filming Twister, including running around Oklahoma chasing storms to capture footage for the movie.

Sean talks about his long list of television appearances, including Friends, Just Shoot Me!, My Wife and Kids, and many more. But his Hollywood journey wasn't always easy. He opens up about an incredibly slow period in his career that forced him to take a “normal job” doing grocery store setups for eight years just to make ends meet—and the toll that difficult chapter ultimately took on his marriage.

He then explains how he reinvented himself by teaching acting, writing scripts, and taking roles in independent films. When COVID hit, Sean turned to TikTok, where his content exploded and helped create a new source of income through his massive following and LIVE signed-photo sales.

Sean also gets into his work as a writer, director, and actor, including his film Crust, currently available on Tubi.

On this episode of Randomness with Heath and Josh, the guys sit down with fellow Temple High School graduate and longtime Wildcats sports fan Eric Bynum for a trip down memory lane through the rich history of Temple athletics.

Eric shares his journey from Temple to becoming a teacher, taking him to schools in Alaska, South Korea, and across the United States, before eventually landing in the Waco area at La Vega. But no matter where life took him, his love for Temple High School sports never faded.

That passion eventually inspired Eric to create a social media page dedicated to preserving and celebrating the incredible athletes, teams, championships, and accomplishments that have shaped Temple's sports history.

Heath, Josh, and Eric talk about legendary moments, including Temple's football state championships, unforgettable teams and athletes, Wildcats who went on to professional careers, and plenty of stories that longtime Temple fans will remember. Temple's football program has captured state titles in 1979 and 1992, along with numerous other state championship appearances and historic accomplishments.

It's a fun, nostalgic conversation celebrating Temple High School, the Wildcats, and the athletes who helped make Temple sports history so special.

On this episode of Randomness with Heath and Josh, Heath and Josh sit down with independent filmmaker, actor, and Army veteran Freddie “Showbiz” McDuffy for a fun and inspiring conversation about his journey from Arkansas to the military and eventually into the world of filmmaking.

After graduating high school, Freddie joined the Army and spent part of his military career at Fort Hood in Killeen, Texas. While serving, he became part of an entertainment group that traveled and helped provide entertainment for troops stationed around the world. That experience sparked an even deeper passion for the entertainment industry and eventually led Freddie toward filmmaking.

After leaving the military, Freddie enrolled at the Los Angeles Film School, where he began developing his skills and turning his ideas into reality. He started making films with classmates, friends, and family and eventually found himself stepping in front of the camera as an actor as well.

Freddie talks about the ins and outs of independent filmmaking, including the challenges, frustrations, rewards, and unexpected moments that come with bringing a film to life. He also shares his experiences working with friends and family, the lessons he has learned along the way, and, most importantly, his genuine love for the entire filmmaking process.

It’s a great conversation about military life, creativity, chasing your passion, and what it takes to turn an idea into a finished film.

Kim begins by reminiscing about growing up in Temple, Texas, during the 1980s and '90s, sharing why she believes it was such a special place to grow up and raise a family. She then reflects on her time at Texas A&M University, where she joined the Corps of Cadets and met the man who would become her first husband.

After college, Kim and her husband started a family, but their lives changed forever when he was tragically killed in an accident, leaving Kim to raise their two young children alone. She opens up about navigating overwhelming grief, the challenges of single parenthood, and the difficult journey of rebuilding her life one day at a time.

Kim also shares how she eventually found love again, remarried, moved to the East Coast, and welcomed two more children into her growing family. She discusses how those life experiences shaped the person she is today and gave her a deeper appreciation for perseverance and compassion.

Today, Kim is an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner specializing in advanced heart failure. She explains what it's like caring for patients throughout every stage of heart failure—from initial diagnosis to advanced treatments, including heart transplants—and how her own personal experiences have influenced the way she cares for others.

This heartfelt episode is a powerful reminder that even after life's darkest moments, hope, healing, and new beginnings are possible.
