What does it actually mean to raise a young woman who trusts her own voice when so many of us were taught to distrust our own as girls?

In this episode of Embodied Magic, I’m exploring one of the most confronting parts of raising a child to know their needs, boundaries, desires, and inner authority: sometimes their freedom activates the very parts of us that learned it wasn’t safe to be that free.

I talk about the moments when my child’s confidence, boundaries, or willingness to say “no” collide with my own inner Good Girl—the perfectionist and people-pleaser who learned that safety came from keeping the peace, not taking up too much space, and making sure nobody was upset with me.

And this isn’t only about parenting.

Until we begin stepping into our own inner Queen, we may struggle when we encounter women and girls standing fully inside theirs. Her confidence can offend us. Her boundaries can feel like rejection. Her refusal to people-please can look selfish. Sometimes what bothers us about her is that she is occupying territory within herself that we were taught we weren’t allowed to occupy.

  • Why teaching children to trust their bodies, boundaries, intuition, and inner knowing matters—and what they may learn when we repeatedly ask them to override those signals for someone else’s comfort.

  • How raising an embodied, opinionated, boundary-having child can activate the Good Girl, perfectionist, and people-pleasing parts within us.

  • How to distinguish genuine disrespect from the discomfort we feel when someone else’s self-expression threatens our sense of acceptance or safety.

  • Why another person’s discomfort is not automatically evidence that you’ve done something wrong—and why kindness and compassion don’t require self-abandonment.

  • How meeting our own frightened parts with compassion, repairing when we get it wrong, and reclaiming our own inner authority can help us become and raise the Queens we want to see in the world.

If this conversation stirred something in you and you're ready to stop making yourself smaller in order to remain acceptable, I’d love to have you
