Fr Peter George Flynn talks to Dr John McCafferty of the Catholic Historical Society of Ireland ahead of its annual conference on Irish Catholic church buildings, past and future, marking 800 years since the death of St Francis. Dr McCafferty explains why pre-emancipation churches were built to be inconspicuous, and what changed the moment Catholics were finally free to build spires again. Carmela talks to Danielle and John Connors, the pair behind the weekly podcast Reclaim the Faith, about the very different roads that brought them to it. Danielle lost her mother at 11 and found God alone in her bedroom through prayer and poetry, and later through Sr Clare Crockett, whom she was introduced to by an uncle who burst in one Christmas with news he couldn't keep. John grew up among 52 first cousins on a Traveller site, became the first Traveller to win an Irish Film and Television Award, and found that it wasn't enough, until a night at Knock. They also explain how a friendship of six years finally became something more.

Fr Peter George Flynn, back from the Radio Maria spiritual retreat in Italy, insists it was not a holiday and explains what canon law actually says about retreats, holidays and how a day is counted. Then comes what he calls the bonus edition: concelebrating Mass in St Peter's Square, which began with a BBC reporter asking his opinion on the Pope's health and an MC confiscating his booklet, and took a turn at the offertory that he had never experienced in all his years of saying Mass. On the way out, something made him look to his left.
