Pastor Jason continues our Global Church series with a picture worth remembering: a lighthouse that's proud of its height and its stripes, but forgets that its real beauty is in its purpose — to shine light so others can be saved. That's the picture of Israel, Pastor Jason argues, tracing the theme from Genesis 12, where Abraham is blessed to be a blessing, through Exodus 19's call to be "a kingdom of priests," through Deuteronomy 4's vision of the nations asking why Israel's God is so near, all the way to Isaiah's promise of a servant who would be "a light to the nations."
Along the way, we see Israel's failure — Solomon's heart turning after other gods even after the Queen of Sheba came and praised the Lord because of what she saw in him — and how that failure doesn't end the story. It finds its fulfillment in Jesus, who declares Himself the light of the world and then tells His church, "You are the light of the world." The episode closes with a challenge for every believer: are you being a lighthouse, or just admiring your own stripes?
