Maine State Representative Steve Bishop joined Corenna and David Quirk for a wide-ranging conversation about state and local issues affecting communities, taxpayers, businesses, and property owners across Maine.

Bishop discusses rising state valuations and property taxes, including questions surrounding municipal spending and revenue sharing. He also takes a closer look at Maine’s transportation funding, the recent funding shortfall, LD 1804, motor vehicle sales tax revenue, and his concerns about how money moves between the Highway Fund and General Fund.

The conversation also covers Maine’s so-called millionaire tax and its potential impact on businesses, LD 1457 and work-zone safety, the debate over speed-enforcement cameras, Flock cameras and privacy concerns, and the new law affecting oversized ATVs on Maine trails. Bishop emphasizes private property rights, explains why he believes “one size does not fit all” when it comes to Maine’s trail system, and says the ATV law will need to be revisited.

— LifeFlight of Maine CEO Joe Kellner On Maine’s Statewide Critical Care Mission

LifeFlight of Maine CEO Joe Kellner joined Corenna and David for an in-depth conversation about the organization’s statewide mission and the critical care it provides to Mainers when minutes matter most.

Kellner explains how LifeFlight operates by helicopter, airplane and critical care ground ambulance, transporting some of Maine’s sickest and most seriously injured patients. He discusses the growing demand for services, how crews reach patients in remote areas, landing on highways, logging roads and fields, and the extensive safety measures involved in every mission.

The conversation also explores the changing rural healthcare landscape, including hospital services and OB unit closures, the emotional toll emergency response can take on first responders, LifeFlight’s peer-support and behavioral-health initiatives, and the financial challenges facing the nonprofit organization.
