You Can Outrun the Goodness of God | Psalm 23:6

You've been praying. You've been showing up. And somewhere in the back of your head there's a sentence you don't say out loud: I haven't felt God's goodness in a long time.

Most of us assume that means He stopped. Psalm 23:6 says something harder — and stranger.

"Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me" is the polite translation. The Hebrew is a hunting word: pursue, chase, hunt down. David wrote it as a man who spent most of his life being chased for real — by Saul, by foreign armies, eventually by his own son.

So if it's chasing you, why hasn't it caught you?

In the finale of our four-week walk through Psalm 23, Pastor Johnny and Pastor Tim Grandstaff sit in one verse and land on the uncomfortable answer: you can outrun it. Not because God is slow — because we've built lives too busy to be caught, and faith too departmentalized to be led.

David didn't write "God cleared the room." He wrote that God set a table — and left the enemies sitting right there, watching him eat.

Psalm 23:5 is the verse most of us trail off on. We read the first four verses with everything we've got, then mumble the last two like an afterthought. But verse 5 is the outcome. It's where the psalm turns: the Shepherd becomes the host, and the sheep becomes the guest.

Everybody quotes Psalm 23.
