  • The Save America Act, Recess, And The Rules That Control It All
    2026/07/29

    The key procedural correction is that opponents finishing a talking filibuster would not automatically allow leadership to “call the question” and pass the bill by simple majority. Under current Senate practice, cloture on ordinary legislation generally still requires 60 votes unless the chamber changes its precedent. Article I, Section 5 also requires support from one-fifth of the senators present to demand recorded yeas and nays; it is not a power that two senators can exercise alone.

    Scott and Lee have publicly called for keeping the Senate in session, but available reporting does not yet establish that they have formally executed the specific constitutional maneuver described in the original draft.

  • The Docket: Jurisdiction & Power
    2026/07/28

    The Postal Service, Executive Orders, and the Battle for the Ballot

    In a 2–1 decision, the 1st U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals rejected a Department of Justice motion to stay a lower court injunction, leaving intact a block on President Trump’s March 2026 executive order targeting mail-in voting procedures. The directive aimed to require new operational mandates for the United States Postal Service—including unique ballot barcoding, standardized envelope logos, and mandatory state voter data transfers to federal databases—as condition for ballot delivery.

    In this episode, we break down the appellate panel’s ruling, examine the constitutional boundaries between state authority and federal executive power under Article I, and explore how parallel rulings across district courts are shaping the legal framework ahead of the upcoming primary and general elections.

  • Why Political News Feels Like Five Different Realities
    2026/07/27

    The Same Event, Different Story

    Two people can read about the same protest, court ruling, election, or policy announcement and come away with opposite understandings because the media often presents the same event through very different lenses.

    One outlet may focus on:

    * public safety

    * law and order

    * taxpayer burden

    * government overreach

    Another may focus on:

    * civil rights

    * equity

    * historical injustice

    * impact on vulnerable communities

    A third may try to present both sides, but still choose which facts to highlight first, which quotes to include, and which context to leave out.

    That means even when everyone is discussing the same event, they are often not discussing the same version of it.
