Zach King works with what he calls "stranded visionaries," leaders who can see what something could be two, five, ten years out, but struggle to get anyone else to see it too. They keep getting nods and pats on the back that fade into nothing.
Zach's own path through international missions media work, then building an online campus for a 1,500-person church during COVID, taught him this the hard way. He bought equipment alone without consulting the teammate who actually had the experience— a costly lesson in going it solo. A mentor, a retired pastor named Dave Archer, later helped him see the deeper pattern: he'd been carrying his vision completely alone, disconnected from his team and, without realizing it, from his own wife and even himself. He eventually had to admit, for the first time out loud, that he didn't actually enjoy the job he was so capable of doing.
That unraveling led to Zach's framework for leaders: build your GUILD. Grow by giving, teaching what you know. Unity, over competition. Influence, gained by shining the light on someone else. Legacy, understanding you're part of a chain, not just building alone (what he calls "founder's intent"). And Drive: moving from polished but parked to crappy and committed, because imperfect action beats perfect inaction every time.
His closing challenge: find one person a day and serve them. Turn the focus from inward (what's my vision) to outward (how can I help someone else build theirs).
