  • Leanne Johnson: Being a Woman in the Film Industry, From Sports to Indiana Action Star, Producing and Starring in Extraction USA and More!
    2025/05/08

Thanks for tuning in to Podcast of Traveling Actors! In this episode, we are talking to someone we haven't worked with (yet) but have both admired and respected from afar for a while now...Leanne Johnson!

Leanne first got on Deaton's radar by portraying Batgirl in a fan film, but that is just the tip of the iceberg of her many roles!

Known for NBC's Chicago P.D., an appearance in the Oscar winning biopic Judas and the Black Messiah, and her “Indie darlings” Chasing Rabbits, Oreganda, Alan and the Rulers of the Air, Undefiled as well as her own passion project, Extraction USA, she continues to show her dedication and versatility in her emotional roles as well as her physical ones. She will even be joining Deaton’s show “Renegade: The Series” as super soldier and Angels of Death leader, Shadow.

Buckle up and grab some popcorn for this in depth look at Leanne’s journey from transferring her love of sports and competitive nature to the big screen to the difficulties of being a woman in the film industry and ending it with all about her journey moving into producing Extraction USA in what she says “not only will I star in it but I’ll make sure it gets made and finds its place.” Something must have clicked along the way because now you can watch Extraction USA for free on Tubi!

  • Cam Dyer: Deep Within the Caves, Going Back to School for Filmmaking, Bringing Us All Together and More!
    2024/07/22

Thanks for tuning in to Podcast of Traveling Actors! In this episode, we're talking to the guy that literally brought us all together...Cameron Dyer! Cam is a native of the small town of Eminence, Kentucky and a rising filmmaker. He is the co-founder with Deaton of their production company, Cobra Pit Productions LLC. Together, they have produced 7 short films, a comedy web-series pilot and a feature film and are currently raising funds for their latest feature film "Deep Within the Caves." (Proof of Concept for this feature is at the beginning of the episode.)

Their latest short film "The Demon Box" written and produced by Cam and directed by Deaton was an Official Selection at the Imaginarium Convention this year.

We talk about earlier projects that brought us all together (including the first feature film "Broken Vows" in which we cast and first met Brandon,) why Cam decided to go back to school for filmmaking to obtain a degree when he already received a certificate from BCTC, how Cam's writing has changed over the years working on various projects, and we even get a sneak peak pitch of the latest script Cam is working on!

Just a quick personal note from Deaton, sorry for the late upload again. Imaginarium being last week kept me busier than expected on top of auditions and some meetings for Deep Within the Caves. I'm working on getting everything caught back up and on schedule though. We also will be releasing a special BONUS episode this week! This will feature the full "Basics of Screenwriting" panel at Imaginarium that I had the honor of being a part of. There was some really amazing advice and tips on screenwriting that you will not want to miss!
