By the time your podcast has been running for a while, you probably have a process. You know when you record, how much prep you usually need, what kind of episodes you tend to make, and how the whole thing moves from idea to published episode. The problem is that a process can keep functioning long after it stops working particularly well for you.

That can look like recording taking three times longer than the finished episode, defaulting to interviews or solo episodes because they feel easier, over-preparing because you’re struggling to get through an outline, or doing every part of an episode one at a time instead of batching the work. None of those things automatically mean your process is wrong. They do mean it’s worth looking at whether the way you’re making the show still supports the podcast you’re trying to create.

In this episode of The More Profitable Podcast, I’m wrapping up this year’s Podcast Housekeeping series by walking through how to audit your podcast process, from tracking where your time is actually going to reviewing episode purpose, format, prep, and batching. We’re looking at what’s still working, what may need to change, and where your current process may be making podcast production harder than it needs to be.

2:09 - Why time tracking is the first step in auditing your podcast process

4:49 - Using four episodes to get useful data without tracking your time forever

6:47 - The role of social proof, education, and sales content in your podcast strategy

9:23 - How knowing the job of an episode helps you control its scope

11:14 - Using sales calls, client conversations, and objections to plan stronger episodes

14:12 - Why your content should come before your podcast title

17:57 - How to adjust your episode prep when your current process stops working

21:49 - Why batching by task works better than batching by episode

23:25 - Auditing your last three episodes and your next three episodes
