  • Do you need a podcast website?
    2026/07/02

In this episode of Podcast Answers, I explain why you should create your own dedicated website for your podcast rather than relying solely on the basic webpage provided by your podcast hosting platform. Having my own site gives me full creative control over my branding, design, and overall user experience. I discuss how a custom website unlocks the ability to expand beyond a simple list of episodes by allowing you to add merchandise stores, blogs, email collection forms, and extra downloadable resources like ebooks.Additionally, I cover other key benefits of owning your own site, such as improved search engine optimization (SEO) and the flexibility to display custom image ads or sponsorships. Finally, I emphasize the importance of purchasing a custom domain name—even if you decide to just use your host’s provided webpage—to ensure your audience can always find you and to protect your brand identity if you ever switch to a different hosting provider in the future

  • Why Your Mic Sounds Bad (And How to Fix It in 10 Minutes)
    2026/06/18

Welcome back to Podcast Answers, the show where I help you start and grow your podcast while answering all your questions along the way. In today’s episode, I am talking all about getting the best possible sound out of your show through good microphone technique. Because honestly, whether you have a $400 microphone or a cheap budget option, you can get great—or terrible—quality depending entirely on how you use it.

Also, if you are watching the video version of this episode, you will see exactly why I always say you just have to roll with the flow—my Rodecaster totally dumped and rebooted the second I started my live stream!

Here is a breakdown of the essential rules of thumb I cover in this episode to instantly elevate your audio quality:

    • Perfecting Mic Placement: I explain why I try to maintain a consistent distance of 4 to 8 inches (about four finger widths) from the mic. I also talk about why speaking slightly off-axis helps me reduce harsh breath sounds and plosives.
    • Controlling Plosives: Hear why using a foam windscreen or pop filter is crucial for keeping your P’s and B’s from popping.
    • Dialing in Your Levels: I share my pre-show routine for setting input gain so my speaking level peaks just below clipping, and how using a compressor helps me maintain a consistent volume.
    • Improving Room Acoustics: I offer practical tips on reducing background noise and improving your room’s acoustics. Learn why soft furnishings like carpets and curtains—or even recording in your closet—are your best defense against empty-room echoes.
    • Monitoring Your Audio: I explain why I prefer using in-ear monitors instead of big over-the-ear headphones to check my levels and prevent audio bleed, especially while on video. I also dive into why I always listen back to my own published episodes on different devices to catch when I am speaking too fast or losing my natural tone.
    • Choosing the Right Gear: I break down the differences between dynamic and condenser microphones. You’ll hear exactly why I use the Shure SM7B dynamic microphone—it is fantastic for picking up my voice without capturing all the extra noise in my room.

Join the Conversation! Do you have your own tips and tricks for getting great sound? I would love to hear them! Leave me a voicemail for the show at 574-501-4945 or drop me a message at podcastanswers.com/contact. Have a safe week and keep on podcasting!

  • The Essential Elements of a Podcast One Sheet
    2026/04/24

I break down the two main types: one for pitching yourself as a guest, and another for marketing your own show to potential sponsors or new guests.
