Team Penske’s history with Chevrolet runs deep from the very beginning of the racing operation 60 years ago when it fielded a Corvette Sting Ray in the 1966 24 Hours of Daytona Sports Car race, winning the GT class for the team’s first win ever.

Chevrolet has powered Team Penske to nine victories in the Indianapolis 500 with drivers Rick Mears, Emerson Fittipaldi, Helio Castroneves, Juan Pablo Montoya, Will Power, Simon Pagenaud and Josef Newgarden.

Since officially joining forces for the 1986 IndyCar Series season with a manufacturer-backed relationship, Team Penske and Chevrolet have visited Victory Lane on 125 occasions and have captured 157 pole positions, including Scott McLaughlin’s NTT P1 Award at Laguna Seca in September that represented Chevrolet’s 250th IndyCar Series pole position.

With 18 championships since 1996, Chip Ganassi Racing has quickly become one of the most successful sports organizations in American history. CGR’s 18 IndyCar championships equal the NBA’s all-time franchise record, exceeding every NFL franchise and the leading organizations in Formula 1 and NASCAR, trailing only the New York Yankees (27) and Montreal Canadiens (24) among record holders in North America pro sports.

No Big Four franchise has approached CGR’s championship production, with CGR achieving all its championships across just 31 seasons.

Since 1990, no NFL, NBA, MLB or NHL franchise has won more than six championships.

Chip Ganassi Racing has also won six Indianapolis 500s, beginning with Juan Pablo Montoyo in 2000, continuing with Scott Dixon in 2008, Dario Franchitti in 2010 and 2012, Marcus Ericsson in 2022 and Alex Palou in 2025.
