The Pittsburgh Pirates finished 82-80, securing their first winning season in eight years. We analyze the critical roster battles defining their 2027 outlook, focusing on Konnor Griffin’s push for everyday shortstop duties against rivals Jacob Gonzalez and Jared Triolo. The discussion also covers the catching competition between Henry Davis and Rafael Flores Jr., and the formidable top-three rotation anchored by Paul Skenes, Jared Jones, and Braxton Ashcraft.

We examine the void left by Kirby Yates' retirement, evaluating potential closers like Gregory Soto and Luke Weaver amidst a crowded relief corps including Lake Bachar and Hunter Barco. Outfield battles feature Oneil Cruz, Bryan Reynolds, and Jhostynxon Garcia, while infield depth questions surround Nick Yorke and Brandon Lowe. Key prospects like Tyler Callihan and Spencer Horwitz are assessed for their roles in the upcoming season.

The hosts predict Griffin will start 100+ games at shortstop and hit 20 home runs with 20 stolen bases in 2027. They also forecast the Pirates' return to the playoffs next year, citing the strength of their young core and the strategic development of their bullpen. This comprehensive roster analysis highlights the team's trajectory from rebuilding to contender.
