We believe mental health is a spectrum. At one end is wellness and on the other end is illness. These conversations we have will offer up tips and tools to not only bring you closer to the wellness side, but also help keep you there. TPP (Author & formerly of Above Ground Podcast) and Karen have put together a new mental health podcast that is chock full of lived experiences, wellness tips & practical tools to provide you with some pieces… but it is up to you to put them together to reach that level of wellness that you have been working toward. • Fun Questions: Seeing & Hearing Your Hosts
    2026/08/05

Every day, every where, people ask and answer questions as a means of learning information and getting to know each other. This week, the Instigator and the Yogi decided to use some fun, familiar questions to help our listeners know us more fully.

In this episode, you'll get to find out about our favorite sandwiches, our beliefs about the afterlife, even our favorite songs! Some details may seem minor, other topics give a peek into the deep wells within your hosts, Tim and Karen. We share details we haven't shared before, laugh at the silliness of life, and learn even more about each other.

Let this episode bring a little bit of lightness, some laughter, some sharing to ease you through your day. To quote the Indigo Girls song Closer to Fine, "Help me take my life less seriously, it's only life after all." Enjoy!

  • The Eightfold Path: An Overview
    2026/07/29

Every once in a while on Pieces to Wellness, the Instigator and the Yogi get a little spiritual about mental health and healing. This is one of those times. This week we're discussing the Eightfold Path.

Many spiritual and wisdom traditions offer lists of things to do, things not to do, values and principles to live by. The Eightfold Path has its origins in Buddhism. In Buddhism, the Eightfold Path is the 4th of the Four Noble Truths, and is meant to function as a practical guide to ethical living, mental discipline, and ultimately wisdom. No wonder we like it! The big picture, high level purpose of these guiding principles are to help decrease suffering and reach enlightenment.

We explore what practicing these things, walking this path looks like in today's modern world, what the pitfalls and obstacles can be and have been for us. We also dig into the similarities between these Buddhist teachings and practices, and the 8 limbs of yoga. Do you agree or disagree with our comparisons and connections? What part of the Eightfold Path comes easily to you? What's more challenging? We'd love to hear how this resonates for you!

  • Safe Surroundings w/ Susan From LightNest Interiors
    2026/07/22

This week we're delighted to welcome Susan DePauw of LightNest Interiors to the show! Susan is local to the 518 and takes a unique approach to helping herself and others manage nervous systems through managing their environments.

Susan describes her structured approach to soothing the nervous system through intentionally designed spaces. Whether it's furniture, lighting, floor space, organization, or best of all, plants, there are many ways in which the spaces we live in impact our overall wellbeing. Susan has identified 5 environmental factors that impact regulation, and walks us through how our environment can increase or decrease our sensory load.

We invite you to notice what parts of your environment enhance your wellness, and which parts restrict your wellness. What's within your reach that you can change to increase your sense of peace? One little step each day is all it takes.

Are you struggling with something? Or is there something you'd like to hear us discuss?
