  • If Family Support Isn’t There, We Are
    2026/10/16

In this episode of Phir Se, we explore the role family plays in helping people rebuild their lives after prison and the difficult realities when those relationships cannot provide the shelter, connection and stability they need. From the impact of incarceration on children and the different ways men and women experience family acceptance, to the loneliness of starting over, and how Prayas social workers often find themselves filling the gaps left by family.

  • Without Documentation, What is Your Identity?
    2026/10/09

In this episode of Phir Se, we look at the most important and the least spoken about step of reintegration: documentation and how it helps build your identity. For someone leaving prison, an Aadhaar card, a ration card, a PAN card or a birth certificate forms the foundation of their life outside. It’s necessary for everything, from banking, housing and job opportunities. We also look at how paperwork can be tedious and demoralising, while the system can make it difficult for them to find their footing in society.

  • A Social Worker is a Bridge
    2026/10/03

In this episode of Phir Se, we step into the life of social workers from Prayas who take us inside the realities of working with their clients, i.e. people caught in India’s criminal justice system. From prisons, courts and local shelters for women and/or children, to family reunions, finding jobs, getting documents and being there when their clients have no one else to turn to. They share the cases that stayed with them, the emergencies that followed them home, and what it really takes to help someone start all over again.

What does it take to get a second chance?

Welcome to Phir Se, a podcast about rehabilitation and what it takes to rebuild your life after prison. We understand the realities of rehabilitation through the social workers who help people navigate the difficult journey re-entering society - one document, one job, one relationship, one day at a time.

This podcast is created by Prayas, a pioneering demonstrative project by the Centre for Criminology and Justice at the Tata Institute of Social Sciences that helps those who are caught in India’s criminal justice system.
