  • The Office of Deacon
    2026/08/18

In 1 Timothy 3:8–13, Paul makes clear that those who serve in the office of deacon must be qualified. Deacons are called to be dignified, sincere, self-controlled, faithful, and tested because serving Christ’s church is never merely about completing a task. It is about representing the Savior we belong to.

Christian service is shaped by Jesus Himself. Christ did not come to be served, but to serve, and He gave His life as a ransom for many. He humbled Himself, took the form of a servant, and went willingly to the cross for sinners. Because Jesus served us at the greatest possible cost, no act of service done for His glory is beneath us.

That means serving Christ can look like teaching, encouraging, caring for people, setting up a room, cleaning a floor, taking out the trash, or even plunging a toilet with joy. The task may seem small, hidden, or uncomfortable, but when it is done faithfully unto the Lord, it becomes an act of worship.

We do not serve to earn Christ’s favor. We serve because Christ has already given Himself for us. The gospel turns ordinary work into joyful service because ultimately, we are serving Jesus.

    As you watch, consider:

    • Do I view service as a privilege or an inconvenience?
    • Am I willing to serve when no one sees or applauds?
    • Can I do even the least desirable task with joy because I am serving Christ?
    • Does my character match the gospel I profess?
    • Am I becoming the kind of faithful, humble servant Christ can entrust with greater responsibility?

    📖 Scripture References: 1 Timothy 3:8–13, Mark 10:45, Philippians 2:5–8

Big Idea – Those who serve in the office of deacon must be qualified.

  • Pastoral Qualifications
    2026/08/10

Those who desire to lead God’s church must be qualified.

In 1 Timothy 3:1–7, Paul lays out the biblical qualifications for pastoral ministry. The emphasis is not on charisma, influence, or talent, but on proven character. An overseer must be above reproach, self-controlled, faithful in his home, mature in the faith, and well thought of by those outside the church.

God cares deeply about the character of those entrusted with shepherding His people. These qualifications remind us that spiritual leadership begins with a life shaped by Christ and His Word. Pastors are called to lead with humility, maturity, faithfulness, and integrity for the good of Christ’s church and the glory of God.

    As you watch, consider:

    • Is there evidence of salvation in my life?
    • Does my life reflect readiness for God’s call?
    • Is my character being shaped by God’s Word?
    • Do I value godly character above gifting or influence?
    • How can I faithfully support and pray for the pastors at Heritage?

    📖 Scripture References: 1 Timothy 3:1–7

Big Idea – Those who desire to lead God’s church must be qualified.

  • The Role Of Women In God's Church
    2026/08/03

The gathered church glorifies God by submitting to His Word.

In 1 Timothy 2:11–15, Paul gives instructions for the gathered church concerning the role of women in teaching and exercising authority. These commands are not grounded in the culture of Ephesus but in God's created order and His purposes from the beginning.
Though this passage is often controversial, it ultimately calls the church to trust God's wisdom above human opinion. God's design for His church is good because it reflects His character and authority. As believers submit to His Word, the church bears faithful witness to the gospel and brings glory to Christ.
    As you watch, consider:
    • Do I gladly submit to the authority of God's Word?
    • Is my understanding of the church shaped by Scripture or by culture?
    • Do I trust God's wisdom even when His commands are difficult to understand?
    • Am I seeking to honor Christ in the way I serve His church?
    • Does my life reflect humble obedience to God's design?

    📖 Scripture References: 1 Timothy 2:11–15

Big Idea – God gives women a distinct role in His church.

  • When We Pray
    2026/07/27

In 1 Timothy 2:8–10, Paul teaches that corporate worship should reflect the holiness of God’s people. Men are called to pray with holy hands, free from anger and quarreling. Women are called to display reverence through modesty, self-control, and lives marked by good works. Together, the church demonstrates the beauty of the gospel by worshiping God with both reverence and obedience.

    As you watch, consider:

    • Am I truly part of God’s church through faith in Jesus Christ?
    • Do I pray with reverence, holiness, and a heart free from anger and division?
    • Does my life reflect humility and godliness when I gather with the church?
    • Am I more concerned with honoring Christ than drawing attention to myself?
    • Do my actions encourage others to worship God faithfully?

    📖 Scripture Reference: 1 Timothy 2:8–10

    Big Idea
When the church gathers, it matters how we pray to God.

    When We Pray
    1. The Church Prays Corporately
    2. The Men Pray Reverently
    3. The Women Pray Appropriately

  • Praying For Others
    2026/07/20

Prayer is my responsibility in God’s sovereign work.

In 1 Timothy 2:1–7, Paul calls the church to make prayer a priority by offering supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings for all people. Rather than responding to the world with fear or frustration, believers are called to faithfully pray, trusting that God is sovereign over every person and every circumstance.

God desires people to come to the knowledge of the truth, and He has provided the only way of salvation through Jesus Christ, the one Mediator between God and man. As we trust God’s sovereign plan, we are called to faithfully lift others before Him in prayer.

    As you watch, consider:

    • Is prayer a regular and intentional part of my life?
    • Do I faithfully pray for all people, including those in authority?
    • Am I trusting God’s sovereign rule instead of relying on my own understanding?
    • Do my prayers reflect God’s desire for people to know the truth of the gospel?
    • Am I living a life that demonstrates faith in the God who hears and answers prayer?

    📖 Scripture References: 1 Timothy 2:1–8

Big Idea – Praying is my responsibility in God’s sovereign work.

  • Christ's Glory Displayed To Sinners
    2026/07/13

Christ displays His glory through the lives of those He saves.

In 1 Timothy 1:12–20, Paul reflects on the mercy and grace of Jesus Christ that transformed him from a blasphemer, persecutor, and violent opponent of the church into an apostle of the gospel. His testimony reminds us that no one is beyond the reach of God’s saving grace.

Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners, and Paul’s life stands as a living display of Christ’s perfect patience and glorious mercy. Those whom Christ saves are not only forgiven but are called to faithfully fight the good fight, hold firmly to the faith, and live for His glory.

    As you watch, consider:

    • Have I experienced the transforming grace of Jesus Christ?
    • Does my life display the glory of the Savior?
    • Am I walking in faith with a clear conscience?
    • Am I faithfully fighting the good fight for the sake of the gospel?
    • Is Christ using my life as a testimony of His mercy and grace?

    📖 Scripture References: 1 Timothy 1:12–20

Big Idea – Christ displays His glory through the lives of those He saves.

  • Confronting False Teachers
    2026/07/06

False teachers are dangerous because they lead people away from the truth.

In 1 Timothy 1:3–11, Paul charges Timothy to confront false teachers and protect the church from doctrines that lead people away from the gospel. While false teaching produces confusion, speculation, and empty discussion, God’s truth produces love that flows from a pure heart, a good conscience, and a sincere faith.

The law was never given to save sinners but to reveal our sin and point us to the glorious gospel of Jesus Christ. The church must remain anchored in sound doctrine because only God’s truth gives life.

    As you watch, consider:

    • Am I rooted in the truth of God’s Word?
    • Do I know the gospel well enough to recognize false teaching?
    • Is my life producing the fruit of a pure heart, a good conscience, and sincere faith?
    • Am I committed to defending biblical truth with both conviction and love?
    • Is Christ and His gospel the foundation of everything I believe?

    📖 Scripture References: 1 Timothy 1:3–11

Big idea - False teachers will cause the church to abandon God’s truth.

  • God's Rules For His House
    2026/07/01

Do you live by God’s standards or your own?
In 1 Timothy 3:14–16, Paul reminds us that the church is the household of God, the pillar and buttress of the truth. God has not left His church without direction. Through His Word, He shows us how His people are to live, worship, and uphold the gospel.

At the center of God’s church is Jesus Christ. He was manifested in the flesh, vindicated by the Spirit, seen by angels, proclaimed among the nations, believed on in the world, and taken up in glory. Everything the church is and does must point to Him.

    As you watch, consider:

    • Is my hope found in Jesus Christ alone?
    • Does my life reflect God’s truth?
    • Am I faithfully committed to Christ and His church?
    • Am I helping uphold the truth of the gospel?
    • Is Christ being made known through my life?
