Yoav Segalovitz, a Jewish Israeli, is reportedly considering joining Mansour Abbas’s Ra’am party, led by an Arab Muslim Israeli. The possibility represents something potentially much larger than one politician changing parties.

Modern Israel is approaching 80 years old. Increasingly, Arab citizens are focused on the same everyday issues that drive voters in other democracies: crime, jobs, housing, education, municipal services and economic opportunity.

A recent survey found that more than 71% of Arab Israelis identified violence and crime as the most urgent problem facing their community, compared with just 8% who chose the Palestinian West Bank and Gaza issue.
