In this special paranormal edition of Blue Ridge True Crime, host Alfred Dockery talks with journalists Marie Mitchell and Mason Smith, authors of Paranormal Kentucky: The Uncommonwealth of Close Encounters with Aliens, Ghosts, and Cryptids.
The book covers more than 20 supernatural cases across Kentucky: UFOs, ghosts, haunted places, and creatures said to roam the Bluegrass woods.
In this episode: the Kelly-Hopkinsville incident of 1955, where a farm family traded gunfire with three-foot visitors; a 1976 abduction case in Stanford where three women lost two hours and gained radiation-like burns; Waverly Hills Sanatorium; the Goatman's trestle; and Leah Smock, the Battle Town Witch.
Marie and Mason traveled the state, treating witnesses with respect and refusing the easy skeptical answers. As they put it: sometimes the only honest conclusion is "I don't know." Paranormal Kentucky is available from the University Press of Kentucky, online bookstores, local booksellers, and state park gift shops.
