What happens when the hardest chapters of your life become the very thing that gives your art a voice?

On this episode of Houston Hustle, Dr. Paige and Dr. Charlie Ward sit down with songwriter, producer, and founder of Mystic Voyage Music Group, Sakima, for a conversation about music, resilience, fatherhood, creativity, and finding purpose through the experiences that shape us.

Sakima’s story started with poetry and a teacher who recognized something in him before he fully recognized it in himself. From there, life took him through the military, unexpected responsibility, raising his younger siblings, fatherhood, entrepreneurship, and eventually back to the thing that had always been there: writing.

For Sakima, music isn’t just entertainment. It’s how he processes life.

As he puts it, pain isn’t the enemy. Pain is a teacher.

We talk about how he transformed those experiences into his own sound, why authenticity is what makes music connect, what it takes to keep creating when success isn’t immediate, and why you can’t become attached to someone else’s timeline.

Sakima also takes us behind the scenes of building his music business from essentially a piece of paper into music released across major streaming platforms, while writing hundreds of songs and learning to navigate everything from production and marketing to AI and artist collaboration.

This one is for the creatives, the entrepreneurs, and anyone building something that the rest of the world may not see yet.

Keep creating. Keep learning. Keep going. Your story might just be the thing someone else needs to hear.
