In a small village lived a man named Shivayya. One day, while returning home through a dense forest with gold jewelry bought for his daughter’s wedding, he was confronted by a fierce demon. The demon threatened to eat him to satisfy its hunger. Shivayya humbly requested a brief favor—to let him deliver the wedding jewelry to his family first, promising to return afterward to become the demon's meal. Moved by his honesty, the demon agreed.
Shivayya delivered the jewels to his house, explained the situation, and quietly left to keep his word. However, his family members stepped up one by one to save him:
The Son: Overhearing his father, he rushed ahead to the forest first, pleading with the demon to spare his father and eat him instead.
Shivayya: Arriving at the scene, he insisted the demon release his son and take his life instead.
Shivayya’s Father: He intervened, offering his own life, reasoning that the younger generation still had their whole lives ahead of them.
Shivayya’s Wife: She arrived next, begging to sacrifice herself to spare her husband and family.
The Daughter: Finally, she stepped forward, arguing that the whole ordeal happened because of her wedding jewels, so she should be the one to pay the price.
Seeing this selfless love, devotion, and willingness to sacrifice for one another, the demon was deeply moved to tears. This powerful act of pure love broke a curse on the demon, instantly transforming him back into his true form—a Gandharva (a divine celestial being).
Grateful for his redemption, the Gandharva blessed the family with immense wealth, gifts, and prosperity before vanishing into thin air. The family then returned home safely, bound tighter than ever by love.
💡 Moral of the Story:
Selfless love, sacrifice, and the strength of true family bonds can overcome even the greatest evil and transform the hardest of hearts.
