  • Escaping Labels in Self-Care and Learning
    2023/12/13

Last night, at a body butter-making birthday party, I found myself embroiled in a deep discussion on self-care, whichsparked a profound realization. Amidst the chatter of skin care routines and nail appointments, I discovered that my own self-care practice, though devoid of labels, was just as significant as the rest. Walking barefoot, playing in creeks, or simply breathing in fresh air - these seemingly mundane habits, it turns out, are the cornerstones of my self-care journey.

This revelation led me to draw parallels with education, specifically how we assess progress and success in our children. Much like the labels we slap on self-care, we often measure a child's growth through traditional performance indicators. But what about their individual journeys, their unique nuances of growth? It's time we challenged and nurtured our children's growth creatively and flexibly without the constraints of labels. Join me in this transformative episode where we redefine our understanding of self-care and education and champion a distinctively personal and refreshingly label-free approach.

  • Evidence of Impact in Education
    2023/12/06

A surprising text message led me to an unexpected revelation about the true impact of education. One of my former students reached out for a casual coffee catch-up, and through our wide-ranging conversation about everything from sports to dreams, I was humbled to discover the indelible imprint of our time in the classroom together.

Join me in redefining what success in education really looks like. It's not grade cards or standardized tests, but the subtle transformation in the student's language, application of knowledge, and wisdom towards life.

Whether you're a homeschooling parent, a co-op teacher, or an educator in a traditional school, I urge you to look beyond the immediate evidence of your educational impact.

Let's focus on the character-shaping lessons, the meaningful outcomes in the students' lives and their contributions to their communities. This episode is a call to action for all educators - to ensure our input not only results in high grades but also in meaningful, character-transforming outcomes.
