In this introductory episode of Out of the Nest, host Débora Ferreira Leite invites listeners into a space dedicated to exploring immigration, identity, and what it means to step outside your comfort zone.
Débora shares her personal journey—from spending 24 years in Brazil to moving to the United States in 2022 as an au pair, with limited English and no prior international travel experience. Now based in Syracuse, New York, she reflects on the challenges, transitions, and unexpected opportunities that have shaped her path as a graduate student and teaching assistant at Syracuse University.
This podcast goes beyond one story. Out of the Nest will feature conversations with guests from diverse backgrounds, each bringing their own experiences of migration, adaptation, and belonging. The show places a special emphasis on amplifying women’s voices and creating space for stories that are often overlooked in dominant narratives.
Listeners are encouraged to embrace linguistic diversity, as many episodes will include non-native English speakers. Here, communication is about connection—not perfection.
Stay tuned for the first full episode, where Débora and a special guest discuss the motivations behind immigration and the beginnings of their journeys in the U.S.
