Abe is an amazing songwriter, story teller, visual artist, documentarian of serpent handling Appalachian gospel music, podcast host and just fun dude to talk to. His music sounds like John Prine and Meatloaf had a child who was raised by Paul Thorn. Abe is also USAF veteran of Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, currently serving as a reservist C-130 Avionics Tech with the 403rd Maintenance Group, stationed at AFB Keesler in Biloxi, Mississippi. With over 17-1/2 years of service in Air Force, Abe balances his reservist duties with an active tour schedule of live performances across the US and Europe. In this episode of Soldiers, Stories & Songs, Guy Jaquier and Adam Rossi spend time with Brian LaRose, a former Army Special Forces Engineer, who served 6 years as a sniper and demolitions expert with the 5th Special Forces Group, with 2 tours to Lebanon and Turkey.

Returning to his home outside of Boston, MA, Brian formed the band “High Pines”, playing locally and recording 2 albums with a blend of Americana and Irish folk tones that make you want to hang out with them in a pub and have a few beers. High Pines was named one of the “Rising Stars of Massachusetts” by the New England Music Awards. Brian is also working on a solo project and is an alumnus of Zac Brown’s Warrior Song program at Camp Southern Ground.

In this episode of Soldiers, Songs & Stories Guy Jaquier and Adam Rossi talk with Chuck Briseno about his journey from growing up in a small south Texas town, reared on a mix of Tejano, country and Red Dirt music, enlisting in the Army and later graduating from West Point. Chuck served from 2005-2018 in the 173rd Airborne with deployments to Afghanistan, fighting in the Konar and Korengal Valleys, made famous by the National Geographic documentary “Restreppo”. He separated from the Army as an O3 and now fronts his non-stop touring band that plays some 200 gigs a year. Chuck is the epitome of the term “hard working musician”.
