One of my favorite words is the word epiphany. My audience is shrinking, yesterday my YouTube followers dropped from 7 to 6. Old Nate would have taken this personally and likely stopped or taken a break to try and figure out how to get better. My top video has 20 views, I imagine hosting 20 people and talking to them for 10 minutes. I am just getting started and I would be so nervous talking to a room of 20 people for 10 minutes, so being able to do it through video makes things so much easier.I'm glad that this person left my orbit now because my message is not meant for them and won't help them.Russell Brunson my mentor of the last 10 years tells a story about how when he started his podcast his brother uploaded it for him and never told him the stats. Russell just committed to the process and it took two years before his podcast really got traction. That's what I'm doing through YouTube is telling stories every day to get better. It's not about the stats. It's because I know I'll be telling stories from a stage one day.I'll also be teaching from a stage so this podcast is my training ground for how I teach as well.Olivia my daughter is doing edits for shorts and she helped me have an epiphany. She says dad... You talk a lot.I was thinking about it this morning and I said to myself you know what you are being a rambler. My big ahah was that I could have three different types of story tellers. The Rambler, The Charger and The Impala. My first car was an impala. These three types of cars can help people understand what type of story tellers they are. The Impala is a beautiful amazing animal in Africa. We know the Rambler and the Charger, the charger just takes a story and charges through it.I haven't yet written this into my book yet, which is the great part of this podcast being where I document my journey. You get to see in real time when I have the epiphany and I can always look back on these podcast episodes to see what I was going through. This was the day at 6:27 in the morning on my drive to the office I have a great idea to write in my book. Then this podcast episode marks that time in history for me to years from now as I am explaining this idea I can come back to this episode and remember the feeling. This is a perfect example of how someone can be stuck in their own head. Had Olivia not told me I was talking so much, I easily could have continued on a negative cycle of I can never get more than 20 views on my YouTube and quit.I wasn't headed down that path, yet that is a path I've taken in the past.Try and have more epiphanies and try to take time to think. Now when I wake up first I meditate, then I start to think about how my day is going to go. What is it that I want to say in my podcast, write in my book and what I can do to help others. This morning I came to this epiphany and sometimes we are just out there and we are stuck.I have. a few minuets before I get to my office so I'm going to tell you a quick story.A month ago I was at Funnel Hacking Live and I met someone named Mary Elizabeth. She was telling me about her business I gave her input on how I thought she could get unstuck and offered a suggestion on how I could help. When I talked to her the next day, and she's still stuck, right, but I haven't gone and helped her with the thing yet.I go, "Mary Elizabeth, let me set the scene for you. We're up in the mountains, and you're driving a jeep, okay? You get that jeep stuck in the mud, way up in the mountains. There's no cell service. There are no people. I have to hike out and get help. I'm on the trail, hiking out to get help, and this jeep is stuck deep in the mud. There's not much you can do."She had been busy working on trying to fix these things in her business, and I said, "Mary Elizabeth, you are outside of the jeep right now, trying to change your tire. Do you understand? What you're doing is not going to help right now. You need to take a breath and just step away and wait for help to arrive."We do this a lot in life, where we think we can solve the problem, and we might actually be making the problem worse. Can you imagine that? You're stuck out in the mountains, and the thing that you try to do while someone is off getting help is change a tire while the vehicle is stuck in the mud. That is exactly what I was going to do if I would continue doing my YouTube videos by rambling. It's funny how answers come to us like that. These aha epiphanies, as my old pastor Brent said, are God winks and God moments. They come to us at different times, but our job is to pay attention and listen when those things happen. Of course, we have to take action. That's my message for today: take action on telling great stories, everybody. Have a great day. I'm Nate and I teach storytelling.
