Liv and Marian have a lot to say, and One more thing! is where some of that overflow ends up. These are bonus, bite-sized pieces of conversation that don't end up making it into the final episode, but they are too good to leave on the cutting room floor.

In this one: A five-year-old's fascination with submersibles is easy to get curious about. As a parent, it's much harder not to turn it into a career plan. And with senior subject selection season unfolding in schools right now, this bite-sized bonus is a timely one. Marian and Liv pick up from Marian's "I Didn't Know That Was a Thing" conversation with her son Hugo, and dig into what it takes for adults, whether that's a parent, a teacher, or a school system, to hold their own bias so a young person's own sense of who they are gets room to surface.

They get into what actually sits underneath a career "choice" once you push past the first answer of money, why kids so often read what impresses the adults around them rather than what genuinely interests them, and a telling moment from a PD session where a science teacher admitted they didn't want students exploring too freely, in case it meant fewer of them chose science. It's all emphasised by a line from Patty McCord's book Powerful: power doesn't need to be granted. It just needs the conditions to be exercised.
