    2026/10/08

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of One More Book Podcast, Lilly and Florence sit down with Sheeko aka The Rich Auntie, activist, community builder and co-founder of Kwanzaa, a Black, queer-feminist, anti-racist and decolonial bookshop and community space in Bremen.

Sheeko takes us through their journey into activism, from navigating Blackness and belonging in Germany to finding community and eventually creating spaces where Black people can see themselves, connect and simply be.

We also explore Black joy, accountability, solidarity, sustainability, the ancestors, and why creating spaces of belonging can itself be an act of resistance.

And, of course, we end with books with Sheeko sharing three recommendations, including Black Trans Feminism, Bell Hook's The Will to Change and Against White Feminism.

🎧 Listen, share and support independent Black community spaces.

  • Does Gen Z Still Believe in the Future? Loneliness, Social Media, Meaning & Community
    2026/09/21

    Send us Fan Mail

Can we still tell young people, “You have a bright future ahead of you” and expect them to believe us?

In this episode of the Podcast, I sit down for an honest intergenerational conversation about what it feels like to come of age right now. We talk about Gen Z’s relationship with the future, economic uncertainty, information overload, social media, humour as a coping mechanism, the desire for a quieter and more whimsical life, loneliness, individualism and the disappearance of community.

After listening, I’d love you to continue the conversation. Tell me what came up in that conversation. You can send us an Email or message, share what you’re reading and thinking about, and let us know what this episode brought up for you.

  • Education, Power & the Politics of Thinking: Rethinking Kenya's Colonial Legacy
    2026/07/18

    Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, we sit down with Yvonne Atieno for a thought provoking conversation about education, democracy, history, and power in Kenya.

Together, we explore how colonial structures continue to shape Kenya's education system, why critical thinking is being replaced by "practicality," and what it means when education becomes primarily about employability rather than human development.

Drawing on the works of Prof. E.S. Atieno Odhiambo and Dr. Wandia Njoya, we discuss the ideology of order, the role of history in shaping political consciousness, the loss of oral traditions, and why asking "Education for who? Education for what?" may be one of the most important questions of our time.

We also reflect on AI, creativity, philosophy, and the importance of reclaiming knowledge beyond the classroom.

This conversation is for anyone interested in education, African history, decolonisation, democracy, and the future of learning.

    Books & Essays Mentioned

    Primary Readings

    • E.S. Atieno Odhiambo – The Ideology of Order (essay)
    • Dr. Wandia Njoya – essays on education, competency-based curriculum (CBC), philosophy of education, and decolonising learning

    Additional Books Referenced

    • Walter Rodney – How Europe Underdeveloped Africa
    • Walter Rodney – The Making of an African Intellectual
    • Augustine of Hippo – The City of God
    • René Girard – works on mimesis and violence (particularly Things Hidden Since the Foundation of the World or Violence and the Sacred)
